Analytics engineer with dbt, Snowflake and semantic-layer experience

I am Syed Ahmed Basharat Ali, a data scientist and analytics engineer in New York City. I work on the layer between raw data and the numbers people trust: dbt models, warehouse reliability, reconciliation and metric definitions.

Through my own consulting practice I was the CEO's data person at Rime (rime.sa), a Saudi edge-AI retail camera startup.

dbt, Snowflake and PostgreSQL at Rime (consulting client)

  • Shipped an 11-model dbt migration across a multi-tenant Snowflake warehouse (50+ client schemas), with reconciliation and observability built from zero in Python and GitHub Actions. It surfaced two real sync issues on its first run.
  • Stabilized a 137 GB PostgreSQL backbone that was failing 8-hour Airbyte syncs.
  • Traced an 80% upstream data loss across a 150-device fleet and shipped a staged fix.

Metric definitions and semantic layers

Two public projects focus on why the same question returns different numbers, and one on catching data that looks healthy but is wrong.

Earlier reporting and data modeling

  • At Geidea, built settlement and onboarding data models covering 400K+ POS terminals, and an automated Tableau platform for FinOps reconciliation, SLA tracking and interchange optimization across 5+ teams: 40% less manual reporting and 60% faster Oracle dashboards.
  • At EY, built the EY Pakistan internal reporting layer for partners and senior directors, and supported an SAP BI implementation that reduced reporting effort by 40%.

Tools

dbt, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Airflow, Airbyte, Talend, SQL, Python, GitHub Actions, Metabase, Power BI, Tableau.
