Data analyst: SQL, dashboards and reconciliation
Open to full-time Data Scientist, Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst and Product Analyst roles anywhere in the US (on-site, hybrid or remote; open to relocating).
I am Syed Ahmed Basharat Ali, a data analyst, data scientist and analytics engineer based in New York City. Most of my work starts with the analyst's job: getting the numbers right, putting them in front of the people who decide, and making the reporting run without manual work. At Geidea, Saudi Arabia's largest payments processor, I built the reporting that finance and operations teams used every day. At EY I built dashboards for C-suite clients and for the firm's own partners.
What I've done
- Built an automated Tableau platform at Geidea for FinOps reconciliation, SLA tracking and interchange optimization across 5+ teams: 40% less manual reporting and 60% faster Oracle dashboards.
- Segmented 40K+ merchants by MCC, interchange and chargeback behavior.
- Merchant churn and revenue analysis that informed a tiered retention strategy, cutting churn from 35% to about 10% on a $5M+ revenue portfolio.
- EY (Jan 2022 to Jun 2023): analytics and C-suite dashboards for GSK and National Foods, with a 30% adoption increase across 5+ enterprise clients; built the internal reporting layer for partners and senior directors.
Public work
- Marketplace payout reconciliation: 122,810 orders; daily checks fire 31 of 31 days on a clean book; a fee-on-tax bug passes all reconciliation until fees are recomputed from policy.
- A trust harness for a semantic layer: 40 of 90 queries (44%) have no single answer; one revenue question returns $149M, $136M or $107M depending on the join.
- AI spend intelligence from a raw card feed: 231 card descriptors resolved to 15 vendors; metered spend is not callable before about day 12 of the month, and is plus or minus 100% at day 5.
